Larry Lange Contributes to Major New 'Enterprise Cloud' Survey From PwC

Five months in the making, renowned technology analyst firm, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), have published an important new survey on the impact of cloud on the enterprise.

Larry Lange contributed two in-depth features which accompany the survey.

The PwC survey, The Future of IT Outsourcing and Cloud Computing, queried 500 high-level business executives to better understand the state of data center management today, and what the ultimate cloud goal is: a complete shift to public cloud offerings—or a transition to private clouds—or a combination of both.

Following are Larry's two feature stories which accompany the PwC survey:

1). "Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS): New providers innovate to win enterprise cloud business"

Larry's first article discusses how new cloud-based IT providers are taking aim at the enterprise market for infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS)—by offering the kinds of innovative solutions for which there is growing demand, especially private cloud hosting and consulting. Still, these providers face stiff competition from IT outsourcing (ITO) providers like IBM and Hewlett Packard.

2). "The Big Dilemma: Security versus scalability in the public cloud"

Larry's second article reveals that today's enterprise executives clearly identify security as the biggest risk involved in public cloud deployment, and that they overwhelmingly—about 8 to 1—prefer private cloud over public for IT infrastructure.

Both articles are must-reads for any CXO studying the benefits and challenges of cloud deployment.

Mind Over Matter: The New Reality?

In 1998, Larry wrote a forward-thinking article for EE Times on the subject of mind-matter interaction, a subject only then being discussed by so-called "oddball" quantum physicists.

But take a look at the recent breakthough reported in Scientific American entitled Tiny Chip Converts Paraplegic's Thought into Action. And even USA Today ran a fascinating story on mind-matter interaction: Computers Obeying Brain Signals.
